Marco Silva has been managing in the UK since 2017 and first arrived in the country when Hull City appointed him in January 2017.
The 47-year-old, who is currently at Fulham, has given a detailed interview to A Bola, also talking about his time at Hull City.
Silva helped Hull City beat Manchester United in the EFL Cup and Liverpool in the league in his first month with the Tigers.
The manager also saw Ryan Mason, who was then at Hull City, suffer a serious blow to his head against Chelsea. The 33-year-old fractured his skull after a clash with former Blues defender, Gary Cahill.
Mason underwent successful surgery and worked on rehabilitation for a year in order to return to the pitch. However, he had to end his playing career in February 2018.
Silva is currently managing Raúl Jiménez at Fulham, who also suffered a head injury while in action for Wolverhampton Wanderers in November 2021.
A Bola asked about the Mexico international’s setback and when responding to that, Silva mentioned his former player from Hull City.
“After that tragic accident many doubts were raised, it was a very sad day for English football,” he said.
“I’d had a very similar day as manager of Hull City, it was probably the saddest day of my coaching career, when Ryan Mason, a super-talented young man who had come from Tottenham, had an incident in a game with Chelsea, and fractured even more bones than Raúl. It was clearly a more serious situation because he couldn’t play any more football.
“Then to see something similar happen to Raúl a few years later was very difficult for me, and I’m very pleased to see him in full swing, scoring goals for Fulham and in Mexico.”
