Don’t lie, Chelsea fans, you’d missed the Nemanja Matic to Juventus rumours.
Quite prevalent during the summer transfer window, especially following the arrival of Antonio Conte and assumptions the player wouldn’t fit in the Italian’s plans, things had quietened down in the post deadline day lull.
The near purchase of Axel Witsel also calmed everything, mostly because Beppe Marotta made it clear the Serie A champions would return in January for another attempt at bringing the Belgium international to Turin, but what if it that fails?
In that case, Gazzetta dello Sport say Juventus are back to square one, which means Nemanja Matic, or having to deal with Mino Raiola once again and buy Blaise Matuidi from Paris Saint-Germain.
Relax, though, as the latter of the two is a more realistic target.
Matuidi isn’t a guaranteed first-team player at the French club anymore, which the Serbian is at Chelsea, having started every game under Conte so far.
The Italian manager is still very much opposed to selling Matic, and the Chelsea player’s presence in Milan on Sunday means ‘everything and nothing’ for Gazzetta dello Sport.
He was just shopping.
A lot of what ifs, really. Juventus will return for Witsel, and most likely get their man this time.
