Brazilian legend Ronaldo is really enjoying watching Arsenal this season.
That was revealed by the star himself on his Youtube channel this week.
Ronaldo told a story about meeting Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus in Qatar this week. They had dinner together, during which he told the striker about his affection for Mikel Arteta’s side.
“Jesus came to have dinner with us, he stayed by my side there, I met his little daughter, the most beautiful thing. We exchanged ideas, he is a very good friend of mine, we have been talking for many years. A very special boy,” said Ronaldo (via UOL).
“I was chatting with him, reassuring him. He really is having a spectacular year at Arsenal. I was talking to him about how much pleasure I am getting from watching Arsenal play this year.”
Speaking of being a striker for Brazil at the World Cup, there’s probably no better figure to talk to than Ronaldo. The national team legend is their top scorer in the tournament, with 15 goals, having lifted the trophy in 1994 and 2002.
Gabriel Jesus had been under huge pressure for the national team since the World Cup in Russia, where he was a starter in all of their five games and couldn’t score a single goal.
Now in Qatar, he’s the first option to replace Richarlison. Since Brazil are already qualified for the knock-out stage, Tite is set to use an alternative team against Cameroon, and the Arsenal player could get a chance to start.
Talking about this competition for the position, Ronaldo hopes Jesus can score some goals on Friday and continue fighting for that place.
“Gabriel is there as Richarlison’s reserve, but pressing. I hope he plays a great game, that he can score a lot of goals and put even more pressure on Richarlison, that this dispute between them is very healthy, very cool, the national team only comes out earning from it.”
