Taking a look in Monday’s Italian media, we came across a really strange story about Jordan Pickford heading to AS Roma.
Looking at various versions of the story, it appears they all stemmed from someone changing the Everton goalkeeper’s Italian Wikipedia page.
Since every modification on said website is tracked, we decided to have a look at the page’s changelog, and, sure enough, someone on Saturday had changed his intro bio, current team and senior career to include a non-existent transfer to AS Roma.
It’s since been changed back, as the above link is simply an old version of the article.
This was picked up on by Gazzetta dello Sport, who have been quick to downplay the situation, even if it’s true the 24-year-old’s World Cup performances haven’t gone unnoticed in Italy’s capital.
According to the newspaper, Monchi, AS Roma’s director of football, does like Jordan Pickford as a player, but ‘not that much’.
Certainly not to the point where he’d be willing to spend whatever it would take to convince Everton to acquire his services.
Furthermore, the Spaniard has taken the personal decision to not purchase players who have a good World Cup, as he knows full well inflated prices might not reflect true value.
So, there you have it Everton fans, the story you didn’t even know existed has already been solved.
