Leicester City’s decision to part ways with Brendan Rodgers has come as a ‘good news’ for Jannik Vestergaard, according to Ekstra Bladet.

Rodgers didn’t include the centre-back in his plans as the manager handed him three appearances this season. The 30-year-old’s last outing for the Foxes came in their FA Cup win over Gillingham in January.

At the start of last month, the defender was critical of Rodgers and said the coach hadn’t given him an explanation for not giving him opportunities at Leicester this season.

The Denmark international’s interview didn’t go down well with the ex-Liverpool boss. He was told to stay away from the first team squad at Rodgers’ instructions.

On Monday, Leicester appointed Dean Smith as their manager until the end of the season. His arrival has benefited Vestergaard, who is ‘now back in the heat and training again with the first team’.

Smith has opened the door for the Dane to have ‘fresh start’ at the King Power Stadium.

The player’s deal expires in 2024 and Ekstra Bladet state it looks like he’ll change clubs in the summer. Leicester are 19th in the table and Vestergaard could be an option for Smith in the Foxes’ relegation battle.
