In case Nottingham Forest fans are curious about the club’s interest in Argentine manager Jorge Sampaoli, they better keep up with the updates from Brazil we’ve been bringing, because that’s where there’s been big attention given to the coach’s future.

As claimed by the local media this week, the Reds are about to battle Flamengo for the 64-year-old coach, as the Rio de Janeiro side today announced the departure of Vitor Pereira.

It turns out that as UOL journalist Bruno Andrade today features an update on this situation, he claims the Brazilian side should now completely focus on signing Sampaoli.

That’s because they’d been waiting for a response from Jorge Jesus regarding a return to Rio. The Fenerbahce boss, however, wants to finish the season before giving a response. And since Flamengo are in a hurry to find a new manager, there’s now a ‘free path’ for them to go after the Argentine.

Where do Nottingham Forest stand in all this? Well, the latest reports from UOL had claimed that the Reds are about to sack Steve Cooper and have already made contact with Sampaoli.

So the Argentine manager would now have two scenarios on the table: take charge of Flamengo at the start of the Brazilian season, or move to the City Ground in the middle of a fight against relegation.

Something we shouldn’t rule out is the possibility that Nottingham Forest are being used as a tool to hurry Flamengo with their decision. After all, Sampaoli knows the Rio de Janeiro side represents an attractive job and they can seduce several managers for the position.
