Aston Villa have emerged as a contender to sign Atlético Madrid’s Mario Hermoso in the next window.
The defender’s deal expires in the summer and his future beyond this season remains uncertain. This seems to have made him attractive for other clubs, including the Villans and Juventus.
TuttoMercatoWeb have a report on the Serie A side’s interest and mention Aston Villa.
Focusing on his qualities, the report says the centre-back is comfortable operating in a three-man defence or in the back four, and can operate as a left-back. He’s ‘physically strong, good in the air and equipped with good basic technique’.
The renewal negotiations with the La Liga side haven’t progressed well so far, allowing the likes of Juve, Aston Villa and others to sense an opportunity.
It’s claimed the Old Lady are ‘aware of interest’ from Aston Villa and other clubs, and they are trying to find out if they can enter into negotiations, to get ahead in the transfer race.
Hermoso earns €4m net per year and TMW state this could be an obstacle for Juventus. This may not be an issue for Aston Villa and could give them an advantage to sign him on a free transfer after this season.
Unai Emery and Aston Villa director Monchi may know their compatriot well from their time in La Liga.
Hermoso has two goals and an assist from 32 games for Atlético this season.
