Tottenham Hotspur’s Alejo Véliz returned to Rosario Central on a season-long loan deal last summer. The striker has five goals and an assist from 16 matches this season.
This caught Bahia’s attention, and they made an offer to sign him in the winter market. Pagina 12 reported last week that Tottenham accepted an offer of €8.6m. They can’t recall him in January as the clause is no longer valid.
On Friday, Rosario Central Enzo Giménez urged the Tottenham owned player to continue where he is.
Tottenham have to convince the 22-year-old and pay compensation to the Argentine club to cut short his loan stay in January. That hasn’t happened yet.
Radio Fonica now explain that won’t happen and the Argentine will finish this season at Rosario Central.
Véliz arrived at Tottenham from Rosario Central in August 2023. He found it difficult to enjoy regular minutes at the north London club. This resulted in loan moves to Sevilla and Espanyol, where he again failed to impress.
The Spurs man’s decision to return to his old club has worked out well. He isn’t thinking about leaving them in this window. He has ‘made his obsession clear’, which is to play in the Copa Libertadores with Rosario Central.
Tottenham plan has stalled
His will has been decisive to snub Bahia and Rosario Central ‘breathes a sigh of relief’.
The Brazilian club have decided to look for a temporary solution and return for Véliz in the summer.
La Capital have echoed Radio Fonica’s claim. They report Bahia or Tottenham can pay the Argentine club compensation to cut short his stay. The player has decided not to leave in this window.
The situation forces Bahia to wait until the World Cup to sign the Tottenham owned player. This is clearly a ‘relief’ for Rosario Central, but don’t rule out another twist in this one.
