Manchester City may have been handed a major boost for their Champions League clash with Real Madrid as Luka Modric’s presence in the game ‘is in jeopardy’.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say there is a ‘red alert’ over the Croatian at Real Madrid after he picked up an injury in the clash with Girona.
The newspaper explains that Modric has ‘set off all the alarm bells’ at Real Madrid after leaving the recent defeat to Girona with an injury that will see him on the sidelines for two weeks.
That means he is set to miss both of Real Madrid’s league games against Almería and Real Sociedad and he is also ‘virtually ruled out’ of the Copa del Rey final against Osasuna in Sevilla on May 6th.
The aim is to have him ready for the first-leg clash against Manchester City in the Champions League semi-finals on Tuesday 9th May, but it is ‘still up in the air’ whether he will actually make that fixture.
That’s a huge problem for Real Madrid, with Carlo Ancelotti still considering the veteran as a ‘permanent fixture’ for the big games. A Champions League semi-final clash with Manchester City certainly qualifies as that.
Not having him in the squad would be a major setback for the Spanish giants, but a potential boost for Pep Guardiola and co.
