With it officially announced that Niklas Süle would be leaving Bayern Munich at the end of the season and signing for Borussia Dortmund on a free, immediate questions have been raised about the future of one of the latter’s players.
That man is Manuel Akanji, who has been a regular under Marco Rose this season, and yet could be the one sacrificed to accommodate the German.
Should he leave, Manchester United are reportedly interested, as Bild in Germany have an article on the matter on Wednesday afternoon.
Contracted at the Westfalenstadion until 2023, the Switzerland international has, according to Bild, already ‘rejected a first renewal offer’ from his current club of around €8m + bonuses.
The German newspaper then add that the player, who currently earns around €5m/year, ‘wants to earn at least double that in the future’.
This where Manchester United could step him and offer him what he wants, but it’s made clear that ‘should Akanji really make the leap to the island, United or other top English clubs who have Akanji on their list would have to put a fee of at least €25m on the table in the summer.
Were that to happen, then Niclas Schlotterbeck would be targeted, as Freiburg would be willing to let their starlet go for about the same amount.
