Bruno Alves has joined the list of Portuguese players plying their trade in the UK. Pedro Caixinha snapped up his compatriot for Rangers, but before starting his life at Ibrox, Alves has the small matter of the Confederations Cup.
Alves is particulary looking forward to the tounrament, having played for Zenit from 2010 to 2013. The 35 year old Rangers player is quoted by Record as saying: “It was a country that welcomed me. I just have to thank you. Thank you Russia, Zenit, St. Petersburg, you are always in my heart.”
Having made sure he’s now one of the favourtie non Russian players at the Confederations Cup, Rangers’ Alves was then quizzed on Cristiano Ronaldo. The Real Madrid superstar is the latest in Spain to find himself with a tax charge to face, and he’s clearly unhappy about the situation and negative perceptions.
Alves stuck up for his international teammate, saying: “There are no words for him, for what he represents for the country, for everything he’s won. He is an idol, even to us players. We like immensely the way he represents Portugal.”
The big story right now in Spain and Portugal is that Ronaldo wants to leave Real Madrid, feeling persecuted. Maybe Bruno Alves can use the Confederations Cup to sell Glasgow and Rangers to his teammate.
