Back in March, Rangers defender Filip Helander getting linked to a couple of Premier League sides.

Reports from Sweden claimed the 27-year-old had attracted interest from the likes of Aston Villa and Leicester City.

Now as Helander was interviewed by Fotbollskanalen, the Rangers player claims he’s not thinking of a departure from the Ibrox in the summer.

Directly quizzed about his wishes for the future, with Leicester and Aston Villa specifically named, the defender says he’s happy at Rangers, not concerned about the rumours.

“I feel good here and I have two years left on my contract here. That’s really the only thing I think about,” said Helander.

“I want to continue to perform well at Rangers and then hope to be able to join the Euros this summer. This is where my focus lies.”

Euro 2020 with Sweden isn’t the only continental competition he expects to feature in this year, as there’s also the Champions League with Rangers next season.

“It’s the biggest tournament at club level, so it’d be fun if we go there. There are always small margins in the qualifiers, but it’d be very fun. We will aim for that next season.”

Regarding the Scottish Premiership title and Rangers’ unbeaten run, Helander talked about how proud he is to be succeeding abroad.

“I come from Malmö and winning at home with my own team is special in its own way, but winning something abroad is also fun. It was also an ambition I had when I came here, to be able to win something. It’s definitely a big goal that I set, so it’s fun to be able to check it out.”

As mentioned by Helander, his contract with Rangers runs until 2023. He’s currently valued by Transfermarkt at only €2m, although Steven Gerrard’s side would clearly demand more in case Aston Villa or Leicester City come for him.
