After Borussia Dortmund’s excitement yesterday, it seems today is the one in which it will be tempered somewhat and the idea of an impending move for Manchester City’s Yan Couto pulled back.
WAZ cover the situation today and insist while there is interest in the Brazilian, a move may have to wait until late in the window.
A report yesterday indicated that Borussia Dortmund may have gotten closer to Manchester City, with only €5m separating the two parties.
There was optimism that a deal could be done as Couto had been left out of Manchester City’s pre-season squad, a further indication he’s not in their plans and can be sold.
WAZ pull back on the optimism, though, saying that while Couto is a candidate and Dortmund do want a right-back, a deal is not likely to be happening quickly.
That’s because he is set to cost at least €20m this summer, a figure that Dortmund consider too much despite their extra income from reaching the Champions League final.
The belief is that the option to sign him may only arise shortly before the end of the transfer window, and only if the German side have managed to generate revenue from player sales.
Now, we would point out that the report yesterday insisted that Dortmund had upped their bid to €25m and so a deal could be done for Couto. WAZ though, seem to think that’s too high and argue against that idea.
Indeed the whole tone of this is more negative than what has been claimed recently, perhaps as an attempt to temper expectations at Dortmund.
