Queens Park Rangers are ‘pushing ahead’ to sign striker Michael Frey from Royal Antwerp before the end of the January transfer window.
That’s according to journalist Pieter-Jan Calcoen, who says that there is a deal there to be done for the striker as the Belgian side consider him ‘redundant’.
He reports that Antwerp are looking to find a solution for the 29-year-old, who hasn’t made an appearance for them this season after returning from a loan spell at FC Schalke in the summer.
He has 33 goals in 69 games for the Belgian side since joining in a €2m deal from Fenerbahce in 2021 but has now been deemed surplus to requirements and that’s opened the door for QPR to get their man this month.
At this moment they are ‘pushing ahead’ with a deal for the striker, although it’s not made clear if this would be a loan move or a permanent one.
Given all of the club’s transfers this season have been free deals or loans, it’s likely to be one of those options rather than anything involving a fee but with Frey’s deal at Antwerp expiring this summer that remains to be seen.
Either way QPR are out in front it would seem and pushing to get their man before the window shuts next week as Antwerp want to ‘find a solution’ to his situation.
An article then quickly appeared on Het Nieuwsblad, where it’s said the deal is ‘almost done’, suggesting the English side are close to getting their man, as they are also on ‘speaking terms’ with the player.
