Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique has insisted Unai Emery’s knowledge of him and his club won’t be the reason Aston Villa win their upcoming clash.

Foot Mercato cover comments from the PSG boss today ahead of the big clash between PSG and Aston Villa in the Champions League this week.

The French giants host Aston Villa in the first leg of their quarter-final double header on Wednesday in what is expected to be one of the ties of the round.

PSG have earned plenty of plaudits for their performances in the competition this season, particularly after knocking out Liverpool in the last round.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, have taken to their return to Europe’s top table like a duck to water, expertly guided by Emery, who is something of a master when it comes to European competitions.

The game has an added significance for him given it will see him come up against one of his former clubs, having managed PSG from 2016 to 2018. He’s also taken on Luis Enrique on ten occasions as a manager, although he’s only won two and lost seven of those meetings.

And Enrique does not believe that knowledge will be the reason Aston Villa win the upcoming game, if they do.

“Emery is a top coach, he’s already shown that with several teams,” he said.

“We know what kind of opponent we’re going to face. It’s an even more complete team than last year. They’re not going to win the match because Emery knows me well or vice versa.”
