Last summer, Łukasz Fabiański signed a new one-year deal with West Ham United, with an option to extend for a year.
The goalkeeper’s current deal with the Hammers expires on June 30th and the option to extend would be converted into an automatic extension until 2024 if certain conditions were met.
This has been explained by the West Ham stopper when he appeared as a guest on Jej Wysokość Premier League. His comments are relayed by WP SportoweFakty.
The 38-year-old has revealed the automatic option has been exercised by David Moyes’ side after the conditions that needed to be fulfilled were achieved.
Among the conditions were for the London club to continue in the Premier League. After struggles earlier in the season, West Ham finished in 14th spot. The former Arsenal man wasn’t expecting it to be this tricky for Moyes & co.
“I had two conditions to meet to fulfill the clause in the contract. Both were fulfilled, so it all automatically extended,” he said.
“One of them I felt would be easier to do than the other. But we had to fight for a place in the Premier League a little longer than I expected. Fortunately, this condition was met, so the contract was extended for a year. So, I will be a West Ham player.
“I am so proud to be in my 17th season in the Premier League. Looking at my history in this league and to be here all this time is a pleasure for me.”
The Pole and West Ham’s immediate focus will be on the UEFA Conference League final against Fiorentina on June 7th.
