Following a season-long loan at Nottingham Forest, Nuno Tavares is now returning to Arsenal this summer.
The player still has a contract with the Gunners running until 2025, and since it’s not clear whether Mikel Arteta would give him a new chance, his future is very much open.
Tavares was this week interviewed by Sport TV in Portugal. In quotes brought by Noticias ao Minuto, he made sure to highlight his commitment to Arsenal, despite not knowing what will happen.
“My priority is to return to Arsenal. After that, only the future will tell,” said Tavares.
“Everyone knows that I have another year left on my Arsenal contract. I have people I trust looking after my future. There have been a few approaches, but I always leave it to whoever is in charge of my future.”
Arsenal spent €8m to sign Tavares from Benfica in the summer of 2021, and he only really had one season to play for the Gunners, with him making 28 appearances there.
In 2022, he was sent to Marseille, spending an year in France on loan. Then last summer he joined Nottingham Forest, and things didn’t go well there, as he made only 12 appearances and spent most of the season not even being called up for games.
That undoubtedly makes it more difficult for him to find a new destination, and that’s surely what his agents will be working on.
