If Tottenham were looking for encouragement to make a move for Genoa star Albert Gudmundsson, then they may have just received it.
That’s at least if the comments from Genoa president Alberto Zangrillo are anything to go by, with him hinting he’d be ready to sanction a transfer this summer.
Gudmundsson has been shining in Serie A this season, with 14 goals and three assists to his name in the league in 32 appearances.
That appears to have set him up for a busy summer, with clubs inside and outside of Italy all showing an interest in him.
Tottenham are one of them and have been linked with a potential move for months, with a report last week indicating that they could be ready to bully their way to the signing.
The big question is whether Genoa will stand in the striker’s way this summer, with them surely reluctant to lose their star man, who is currently tied to a contract until 2027 anyway.
It seems that may not be the case, though, as Zangrillo has insisted he is willing to let the 26-year-old dream, and potentially not stand in his way if Tottenham or anyone else seriously come calling.
“He is a young, serious guy, who wants to cultivate ambitions that we are not able to guarantee at the moment. It is useless to deny it,” he said.
“He has a national and international market, it is correct for both parties to make evaluations, what matters is the final result.
“I don’t deal with these things, let the player dream and leave it open to us to operate correctly on the market. We have learnt to love our boys; we can make good transactions and think that in a few years Albert can say ‘if it wasn’t for Genoa I would not be here’.”
