Two months ago, TuttoMercatoWeb reported Manchester City had asked for information about Atalanta star Giorgio Scalvini.
The 20-year-old’s performances have seen several clubs in Italy, including Inter Milan, and abroad take notice.
InterLive.it state the centre-back has long been a target for Inter and Manchester City are ‘preparing to steal’ him from them.
The Italy international would fit perfectly into Simone Inzaghi’s system from a tactical point of view. Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio has followed him since he made his first team debut for La Dea in 2021.
Inter had thought about the defender a year ago but weren’t able to meet Atalanta’s high demand. He’s also drawn the attention of a few clubs from the Premier League in recent times.
As of now, Manchester City seem to be the ‘best equipped club’ to sign the player, and could face competition from other English clubs in the summer. The report adds the idea of playing in England ‘wouldn’t displease him at all’.
Pep Guardiola continues to follow Scalvini as the manager believes he would fit in well at the Etihad.
Having resisted all interested parties so far, La Dea have never closed the door completely on selling Scalvini. It’s claimed Manchester City seem intent on paying €40m to close the deal.
