Ibrahima Konaté has revealed that he wants a longer stay at Liverpool and to have more success at Anfield.

The Reds signed the centre-back from RB Leipzig in 2021 and he’s made 82 appearances in all competitions so far.

Téléfoot had a chat with the 24-year-old, and he stated that he sees himself staying at Liverpoo. His comments are relayed through their official page on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“It’s clear that I want to stay for a long time, it’s clear that I want to achieve things. The most important thing to stay here is to set the bar high,” he said.

His current deal lasts until 2026 and it sounds like the defender is open to signing an extension.

Liverpool won the EFL Cup after overcoming Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday, and the France international started alongside Virgil van Dijk, who scored the winner.

This is the second time Konaté has won the competition and he also won the FA Cup with the Merseyside club in 2022.

Liverpool are leading the league table, a point ahead of second placed Manchester City, and are also in contention to win the Europa League and the FA Cup this season. Jürgen Klopp has announced his decision to step down after this season and the player wants to finish the manager’s spell on a positive note.

“We have to live with it, but in a positive way. It’s his last season with us, we’re giving him the best possible exit for everything he’s been able to do for this legendary club,” Konaté explained.

On when the manager announced his decision to leave the Reds, he said“He told us in the dressing room, just like that, one morning at a meeting. I was quite surprised. I didn’t expect it in the context we were in.”

The former Leipzig man has also talked about the importance of Klopp in his career.

“Throwing me into the deep end. Liverpool, the Premier League, the Champions League, that’s something else. Everything he gave me enabled me to join the France [national] team,” the player added.
