Manchester United supporters are thrilled with the impact Bruno Fernandes has had since joining the club, with the only complaint being he wasn’t signed in the last summer window instead.

Bruno was excellent on Sunday as Manchester United beat Watford 3-0, winning a penalty, scoring it, adding an assist, and playing a role in most of the side’s positive plays.

It’s not just United fans who are thrilled, the Portuguese media are too. Last summer they covered interest from Old Trafford, and continued to do so despite the English club sending out denials.

The player continued to perform well for Sporting, and Manchester United returned to complete a deal, with there being a feeling that although Portuguese football would miss Bruno, that this was an opportunity he deserved.

Despite all of that, there will have been a worry that Bruno could be swallowed up by the hype and spat out by some in the English media who will have wanted him to fail. That he’s hit the ground running is therefore a source of great pleasure.

All of A Bola, O Jogo and Record have big features today on the player’s contribution against Watford.

Record point out the penalty was Bruno’s 13th successive success from the sport. They say the last time he missed was all the way back in April 2016.

We checked that, and according to Transfermarkt he actually missed one in October 2018 in the Portuguese league cup against GS Loures, but he also scored the game’s first goal with a long-range strike so can be forgiven.

Transfermarkt have Bruno down as taking 23 penalties in his career, missing two.

The other miss was when he was playing for Udinese and came in a 3-0 win over Napoli in 2016, and he scored twice in that game.

Record also highlight how the crowd sang Bruno’s name, and they say he has Old Trafford ‘at his feet’ already.

O Jogo state their hero is ‘already the king’ at United, and they add he ‘already has the fans in his hands’.

There’s even a suggestion the Premier League club got the player for a ‘bargain’ transfer fee, something which won’t go down well with Sporting fans.

A Bola also highlight the fan reaction, and explain just how well the attacking midfielder has settled into life at Manchester United.
