Portuguese newspaper O Jogo today features a short update on the future of Celtic star Jota.
The outlet comes up to say that as the player is ‘very close’ to signing for Al Ittihad, Benfica could be about to make some more money with this transfer.
It’s claimed that Celtic are squeezing to take a higher fee from the Saudi side by now requesting €30m for the sale.
This seems to be no problem for Al Ittihad, as ‘everything points out’ that the agreement will be done soon.
The reason Benfica should get excited about this negotiation is that they have the right to receive €30% from the transfer, which was agreed when he was sold to Celtic last summer.
That means the Eagles are about to make money from a player who’s long gone, and that money is more than welcomed at the club.
Jota first left Benfica for Celtic on a loan deal in the summer of 2021, and the transfer was made permanent for €7.5m a year later. He’s about to leave the Scottish club with 83 appearances, 28 goals and 26 assists.
