While Manchester United didn’t want Eric Bailly around this season, Marseille did, which is why the Ivory Coast international was loaned out to the Ligue 1 side.

The French club also have an option to buy the Ivory Coast international, who has now returned following an injury.

He was one of the key men in the club’s recent win over Sporting CP in the Champions League, bringing his experience acquired at Manchester United on the pitch.

He, along with Alexis Sanchez, another summer signing, are the kind of players that can lift a team up, as explained by Amine Harit, who gave an interview to LFP, relayed by Le10 Sport.

He said: “[They bring] their experience. They are players who have played in great clubs, played a lot of Champions League games and know how to work to win titles.

“For a player like, it’s a pleasure to be alongside them every day, because beyond being experienced players, they are also people who like to laugh and talk with everyone. Then, on the pitch, they are quality players. It’s not by chance that they’ve played in big clubs.”

Signed by José Mourinho at Manchester United, Bailly arrived from Villarreal in an expensive £34m transfer, and ended up making 113 appearances for the Red Devils over the six years he was at the club.

While it’s not guaranteed that he will stay at Marseille beyond the current season, the amount needed to sign him (€6-10m depending on the source) should be enough to entice the Ligue 1 side to trigger the option.
