River Plate midfielder Enzo Fernandez has admitted he wants to play in Europe at some point, amid reported interest from Manchester United.

Fernandez is one of the current stars of River’s squad alongside striker Julian Alvarez, with both backed to enjoy big futures in the game.

Alvarez has already secured his own big transfer this summer, with Manchester City moving quickly earlier this year to tie up a deal for the highly-rated striker.

Fernandez is expected to join him sooner rather than later, and Manchester United have been named as suitors on more than one occasion in the past few weeks.

Back in April, it was claimed they had sent a scout to watch the midfielder, and that was followed by reports they would present an offer this month.

That was followed by a report last month that they could easily beat the competition to his signature as the youngster is available for just €20m.

Whether Manchester United do make a move remains to be seen, but the player is certainly keen on a switch to Europe.

“Playing in Europe is a goal, but I’m not anxious to emigrate or anything,” Ole report him saying.

“That’s what my agent is taking care of; I’m enjoying the day-to-day at River. I’m very happy; I’ve always dreamed of it.

“My dreams are to win the Libertadores with River, to play in a World Cup, which I think would be the maximum and winning it would be a privilege, and to play in Europe.

“The leaders advise my teammates and me. They guide us on the right path; they tell us to work hard with humility.

“They tell us how the path is, they advise us in a good way, and they are always on top of us. Enzo, Armani, Pinola and Maidana are great references and great people. We go hand in hand with them.”
