Arne Slot has been warned that he faces challenges he might not expect at Liverpool, particularly around “players with much bigger mouths”.
Journalist Wim Kieft has issued the warning to the Dutch manager today as he edges closer to being named as Jurgen Klopp’s successor.
Liverpool have set their sights on the Feyenoord coach to replace Klopp in the summer and have been working on a deal with him and his club over the past fortnight.
An agreement is yet to be finalised but is believed to be a matter of time, with Slot having made it clear that he wants to join Liverpool.
The move will represent a big step up for Slot, whose managerial career has so far seen him take charge of AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord.
Liverpool is a completely different prospect to both of those, particularly a Liverpool who are set for major changes moving forwards and potentially difficult waters ahead once Jurgen Klopp, a revered figure to say the least, has departed.
And Kieft is unsure if he is a man capable of that, warning the Dutch boss of one particular problem he faces.
“I heard that you all thought Slot was a very good trainer,” he said on the KieftJansenEgmondGijp podcast.
“I still have to see it, because there is a completely different pressure involved in Liverpool. Players with a much bigger mouth, of course. I can’t judge it of course, but we still have to see it all.”
