It’s now time for the Brazilian media to talk about Arsenal and Chelsea interest in Porto player Pepê.
The chase from Gunners and Blues had already been reported by Portuguese newspapers a few times, but now there’s a reason for his home country’s press to discuss it.
Outlet Globo Esporte now features a story claiming the winger, who’s recently been used as a fullback, has ‘already received offers’ to leave Porto in the next summer window.
It’s said Pepê’s staff were approached and received a bid worth €50m. Even though it isn’t said where that offer came from, it’s claimed that Arsenal and Chelsea are the clubs who got in touch for his signing and show up as the ‘strongest possibilities’.
The reason the Brazilian press is interested in this story is that Grêmio are about to make some profit with it. It’s said that behind the scenes, his new transfer is seen as ‘certain’, and the Tricolor will take 12.5% of the profit Porto make with his transfer. The Dragons paid €15m for him, so that percentage will mean quite a bit for a Brazilian club.
Now we wait and see if it was Arsenal or Chelsea who placed that bid. According to Globo Esporte, his camp has had approaches from Italy and France as well.
