Vincente Guaita’s decision to force an exit from Crystal Palace in the summer appears to have worked out, with him now starring at Celta Vigo.
La Voz de Galicia cover the goalkeeper today and how he has now established himself as the number one at the club, and ‘seduced’ manager Rafa Benitez.
The newspaper explains that unless there are any unforeseen events, Guaita will be starting this weekend’s clash with Mallorca in goal, taking him to ten appearances for the season.
He’s established himself as the number one since arriving in the summer after reaching an agreement with Crystal Palace to terminate his contract following a tense few weeks that saw him refuse to play and manager Roy Hodgson criticise him publically.
He arrived lacking match fitness and had to content himself with a place on the bench but a suspension for Iván Villar earlier this year changed that, and he hasn’t looked back since.
In his games so far, he’s managed three clean sheets and pretty much done better than Celta’s other options, despite them being younger.
Indeed, Rafa Benitez appears to have been ‘seduced’ by the goalkeeper’s experience, with Guaita setting the record of being the oldest player to have played for Vigo since their return to the First Division in Spain.
It seems all is working out well and the goalkeeper’s efforts to force an exit from Crystal Palace have worked out, even if Vigo sit 17th in the table and just a point outside the relegation zone.
