Chelsea target Enzo Fernandez is today highlighted by most Portuguese newspapers. And the reason for it isn’t only a potential departure from Benfica, but also his recent attitude.
The midfielder reportedly left Lisbon for Argentina with no authorisation from manager Roger Schmidt. The coach had given players only two days off, and the 21-year-old still chose to take the long journey to his home country and spend New Year’s Eve with his family.
This is a reason for a few newspapers to point out the player already has one foot out from Benfica, and speaking of his potential departure, all of them mention Chelsea as the most likely destination for the player.
Correio da Manhã writes that ‘London should be the destination’ of Fernandez, as he has ‘everything practically agreed’ with Chelsea, despite a recent attempt from Real Madrid.
Meanwhile, Record says the Blues ‘are pressing’ to have the player ‘already’ in January as he already accepted the Blues’ offer on the table. They only point out that the Stamford Bridge side can’t trigger his release clause because of Financial Fair Play, and that’s why they want to pay in several instalments.
That’s a version which seems to be backed up by journalist Bruno Andrade on Twitter. He today writes that Chelsea want to pay 25% now and the rest in two or three instalments. Since Benfica want it all at once, the ‘negotiations continue’.
