On Wednesday, journalist Martín Costa stated Newcastle United will send a scout to watch Boca Juniors’ Kevin Zenón in action against River Plate this weekend.
This is backed up Olé, who then provide additional updates on the Magpies’ interest and Boca Juniors’ stance on the 22-year-old.
It’s claimed Newcastle have already watched the midfielder and their scout will travel to take a closer look at him again on Sunday.
Last month, he joined the Argentine club from Unión Santa Fe and signed a contract until December 2028.
He’s managed a goal and an assist from six games. His great performances, profile and quality have caught the attention of European clubs, with only Newcastle are named.
The report states Zenón’s deal has a $15m [€13.8m] release clause and that makes matters worse for his club.
That’s because Olé insist the fee ‘won’t be a problem’ for Eddie Howe’s side, if they are really interested in securing his services.
Boca Juniors don’t want to part ways with the player and want him to stay at least until the end of this year. After Newcastle and other clubs showed interest, they could work on renewing his contract and increasing the clause.
Until the South American club can raise Zenón’s clause from $15m, there will be the danger of Newcastle or another European club activating it.
Olé say the midfielder has ‘enough qualities to earn a place’ in the Premier League but he’s focusing on Boca for now.
Boca Juniors have faced a similar situation recently, with Valentin Barco leaving for Brighton & Hove Albion thanks to a low clause.
