One of the biggest stories in the Colombian media this week has been Manchester United’s alleged interest in right-back Santiago Arias.
The rumours started with reports from the English press, but didn’t take long until they reached South America, where many people became curious about this move happening.
Arias has been a free agent since the summer, when he was released by Atletico Madrid. That means he could still join Manchester United’s squad even after the end of the transfer window.
It turns out, however, that a report from journalist Pipe Sierra comes up to make things clearer. On Twitter, he claims that the ‘circle of agents and lawyers’ who take care of the fullback’s career are ‘not in dialogue or negotiations’ with the Red Devils. It’s said that the player’s entourage ‘don’t believe in this rumour’.
But Sierra doesn’t completely rule out the chances, as he points out that by being a free agent, Arias is ‘free to negotiate on his own’.
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has been using Portugal international Diogo Dalot as his main right-back. Aaron Wan Bissaka, who was linked to a departure from Old Trafford this summer, remains an alternative on the bench.
