For the past few weeks, the Catalan media have discussed Barcelona’s interest in Manchester City’s João Cancelo.
In the winter market, the defender left on loan to Bayern Munich, who have an option to make his stay permanent.
Sport state the 28-year-old won’t continue at the Bavarian club next season, meaning he’ll have to return to Manchester City after his loan spell in Germany.
Ronald Araújo, who mainly operates as a centre-back, struggled in the right-back position in his side’s 4-0 defeat to Real Madrid. Another centre-back, Jules Koundé, has also been deployed on the right side of the defence this season.
This has convinced the Catalan club to look for a new right-back in the summer. It’s claimed Barcelona’s focus is on the Manchester City owned player as there are many possibilities he could become a ‘great market opportunity’ for them.
With Cancelo not expected to extend his stay at Bayern, Sport further states he ‘will leave Manchester City on loan for sure’ in the next window.
He seems to have set his sights on a move to Barca and is willing to lower his wages to arrive at the Camp Nou.
These conditions allow the Manchester City man to ‘get within range’ of Xavi Hernández’s side.
