Benfica’s Henrique Araújo is ‘on his way’ to Watford in the winter market.
That’s according to today’s Record, who state the Hornets have ‘already agreed’ with the Eagles to sign the forward on a loan deal until the end of this season.
During his temporary stay at Watford, the 20-year-old will collect €25,000 in wages and this doesn’t include bonuses that are related to his performances at the Championship side.
The newspaper makes it clear that Slaven Bilić’s side will not have an option or obligation to make the Portugal U21 international’s stay permanent next summer.
Operating as a striker and second striker this season, Araújo has clocked in 232 minutes from 14 appearances in all competitions for Benfica, but this doesn’t include a single start.
The player will be hoping to feature regularly at Watford during his temporary stay with them.
Benfica’s decision to not give the Championship side an option to buy him indicates that they still have faith in him.
Last September, Araújo signed a new deal at the Portuguese club until 2027 and that includes a €100m release clause.
