Sofyan Amrabat very much wanted his move to Manchester United last summer.
The loan from Fiorentina wasn’t easy to agree and things dragged on a lot longer than they should have, with the whole operation almost certainly ending up overpriced.
Unfortunately the midfielder struggled to really have an important role, although he did grow in prominence in the final weeks of the season. If the entire campaign had been like that then Manchester United may have used their option to buy him, thought to be about €20m.
Monday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport reports Amrabat himself wants to be at the Premier League club next season, and is keen to continue his ‘adventure’ with the Red Devils.
Unfortunately for him, that desire is not thought to be reciprocated, so as it stands he’s going back to Fiorentina.
They want to sell him and have started talks with Galatasaray over a deal. However, despite the claims, it’s unlikely the Turkish club would want to pay what Fiorentina are looking for, which is presumably the €20m or more.
Amrabat only has a season left on his contract. La Viola don’t want him around after he pushed for the Manchester United move, so a renewal is unlikely. That rules out a loan and also makes it very difficult for Fiorentina to hit that €20m level.
If the figure was to drop dramatically, maybe the Old Trafford club will reconsider.
