Manchester United have identified Wout Weghorst as their main striker target in the winter market.

He is on loan at Beşiktaş from Burnley and an agreement with the two clubs is needed for the Red Devils to carry out the operation. On Wednesday, journalist Serdar Sarıdağ stated this was sorted out and only permission from the Black Eagles is needed for the transfer to take shape.

Cumhuriyet explain the 30-year-old has an agreement in place with Manchester United, but a ‘knot’ with Beşiktaş needs to be sorted out for the operation to take shape.

The Netherlands international doesn’t want to reject the Premier League side’s offer and sees this transfer as an important step in his career. He has conveyed this to Beşiktaş and also to his agent.

Weghorst is waiting for permission to move, and he wants that quickly. He is aiming to be part of Erik ten Hag’s squad when Manchester United face Manchester City on January 14th.

Burnley have offered Beşiktaş €3m in compensation to cut short the Dutchman’s loan deal. However, they first need to bring in a replacement before sanctioning the frontman’s transfer.

The Istanbul club are in talks with Vincent Aboubakar, who is in the process of terminating his contract at Al-Nassr. If he leaves the Middle East club, Beşiktaş will then accept Burnley’s €3m compensation to end Weghorst’s loan stay.

Hürriyet state Weghorst didn’t train yesterday because he doesn’t want to risk picking up an injury prior to his move to Manchester United. In addition to the player, his wife also does not want to stay in Istanbul.
