Leicester City, Newcastle United and West Ham United are all following Fenerbahçe’s Attila Szalai, according to a report from Turkey.
The centre-back arrived in Istanbul from Apollon Limassol in January 2021 and established himself in the heart of the Süper Lig side’s defence alongside Kim Min-jae until the end of last season.
Kim Min-jae was sold to Napoli in the summer window, while the 24-year-old was retained at the request of the Yellow Canaries’ manager, Jorge Jesus. Szalai continues to shine for his club, and this has seen Leicester, Newcastle United and West Ham take notice.
According to Türkiye Gazetesi, the English trio, along with Bologna, are ‘closely watching’ the defender.
It’s said the Hungary international, who has the Premier League ‘in his heart’, is ‘wanted’ by Leicester, the Magpies and David Moyes’ side. He is currently the ‘insurance’ of the Turkish club.
The player’s suitor list is expected to grow as the season progresses. His contract expires in 2025, but Szalai’s desire is to leave Fenerbahçe at the end of this season. With several suitors, Jesus’ side aware they will ‘not be able to keep him long’ at the club.
