On Thursday morning, a new report from Globo Esporte sounded a little optimistic about João Gomes’ potential transfer to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
It was claimed that despite Lyon’s attempt to hijack the deal, Wolves continue to lead the race to sign him, and discuss with Flamengo some details of the deal.
The report said that after the player told the French side’s owner he wants to make the move to the Molineux, the deal with the English club is moving forward again.
A new update on this saga is now brought by journalist Venê Casagrande. He claims that Gomes is ‘training normally’ at Flamengo’s training centre as he waits for club president Rodolfo Landim to ‘sign his sale’.
It’s confirmed that the midfielder told Lyon he wants to ‘keep his word’ with Wolves, despite Landim wanting to close the deal with the French side, who offered a million more.
With that first story claiming Flamengo wanted the situation sorted before Friday, as they have a super-cup game on Saturday and wanted to know whether they could count or not on Gomes for that game, Casagrande now reports that the midfielder will not be in the squad for that match.
That could mean that he’ll no longer be at the club by then, or maybe that he’s just not psychologically prepared for such a challenge.
