AC Milan are set to sign Spezia defender Jakub Kiwior in an €18m deal, just over a month after West Ham United tried to sign the 22-year-old.

Foot Mercato report that AC Milan have an ‘agreement in principle’ with Spezia for the defender on a deal worth €18m plus bonuses.

The Serie A champions are now working in parallel with the player’s entourage to reach an agreement on personal terms, but those talks are at an advanced stage and both parties are optimistic of reaching an agreement soon.

The news is likely to come as bad news to West Ham, who were also keen on his signature in the summer transfer window.

We covered a report towards the end of the window that the Hammers had lodged a €12m bid but it was swiftly rejected as the Italian club wanted to keep him for the remainder of the season.

They managed to keep hold of him until the window was closed, at which point Milan have waited and then made their move.

Interestingly, FM state that it was the player who ‘turned down West Ham’ and not his club who turned down their proposal.

Either way, it seems he won’t be turning up at the London Stadium any time soon, with a move to AC Milan now in the offing instead.
