Duje Caleta-Car is ‘tired of his situation’ at Lyon and could be tempted by a move to Sunderland because of it.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who report that the Croatian has been ‘invited to leave’ by the French side.
Lyon are working to downsize as they continue to be under scrutiny from French football’s financial watchdog the DNCG. A review is due this month and costs still need to be cut.
Caleta-Car is one of the candidates to be moved on and Les Gones are no longer counting on him. He was signed on a permanent basis from Southampton in the summer after a successful loan at the club the previous year.
The second year didn’t go as well and he’s publically admitted that he’s not happy with the situation under Paulo Fonseca. As far as Lyon are concerned, it’s already a done deal. He’s on the transfer list.
Several clubs are monitoring his situation, including Sunderland, who are looking to strengthen this summer after returning to the Premier League. There is also interest from Turkish clubs, with Besiktas and Trabzonspor having been mentioned.
It remains to be seen where he ends up, but Sunderland are in the mix and there’s very much a deal there to be done.
