Jesper Lindstrøm sounds like a new man following his transfer to Everton. After a relatively big money move to Napoli last summer he wasn’t able to live up to the hype and faced a lot of criticism.
In reality it was a very difficult situation for the player to walk into. Napoli had just won the league and were collapsing in the aftermath after a battle of egos manufactured by their president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
Ultimately, that saw them finish a hugely disappointing tenth in Serie A last season. Even Victor Osimhen saw his numbers drop drastically, so for newcomers like Lindstrøm it was hard to succeed amidst all the drama.
Now loaned to Everton, with the option for a permanent transfer, the attacker can start to put it all behind him. A goal on his debut against Preston North End is certainly helpful and after the match he spoke to the media and explained just how happy he is right now.
Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet quote him as saying: “It feels good. That’s why you play football – to win games, to score goals, to make assists – so it’s a nice start and I’m looking forward to more.
“As I said to my agent, it feels so natural to be here at Everton. It feels like I’ve been here for six months. Everyone looks after me, is good at communicating and has been good to me. I am very happy here.
“I had a difficult year in Napoli, but now it is nice to be here and I feel that I have rediscovered my joy in football. It’s fantastic.”
Exciting times ahead for Lindstrøm and his new club.
