In the winter market, Aston Villa came close to completing the signing of Loïc Badé before he snubbed them to continue at Sevilla.
On February 8th, the defender said his desire to do “good things’ at Sevilla convinced him to turn down Aston Villa.
Later that month, Badé told ABC Sevilla that Aston Villa director Monchi was the first to understand why he rejected the Viilans.
The 24-year-old has been speaking to Radio Marca Sevilla, who again state he decided to stay at Sevilla despite the ‘lucrative offer’ from Aston Villa in the January window.
Over the past few years, Sevilla’s economic conditions haven’t been great and had to sell some of their players to carry out new signings.
The Frenchman indicates Unai Emery’s side tried to take advantage of this to snatch him from the Andalusian club. He also suggested the Premier League club’s offer wasn’t right for him.
“We also talk a lot with the board. They know the player is important and they’re the ones who choose,” he said.
“Sometimes offers come in because they know we’re in a difficult economic situation and it’s easier to come and buy here, but we talk, and the important thing is that everyone is happy. If someone doesn’t see it as a good fit, we’ll stay and continue.”
On his decision to stay at the Spanish club, Badé explained: “I’m happy, and that’s the most important thing for a player.
“I don’t think about money; it’s the project, a full package, and I have everything I need to progress at Sevilla. I have goals at Sevilla and I have no reason to leave.”
This would suggest Aston Villa’s overall package may not have convinced the defender.
Badé’s contract lasts until 2029 and made 23 appearances for Sevilla this season.
