Nottingham Forest have already made concrete progress in their efforts to sign Botafogo’s Igor Jesus this summer. Earlier claims from Brazil had stated he will join the Reds after the Club World Cup.
On June 5th, Igor Jesus said he’s eager to join Nottingham Forest and a week later, the striker insisted he’s prepared for the Premier League.
The 24-year-old scored in Botafogo’s 2-1 win over Seattle Sounders FC in the Club World Cup on Monday [UK time]. After the match, he had a chat with SportTV and FogãoNET have relayed his comments.
Igor Jesus was pleased to start the tournament with a win and is preparing for the next game against Paris Saint-Germain. He’s well aware it won’t be easy against the Champions League winners, who sealed a 4-0 win over Atlético Madrid on Sunday.
The frontman was asked about his move to Nottingham Forest, after the Club World Cup. He has mixed emotions over leaving the Brazilian club for Nuno Espírito Santo’s side this summer.
“I think this is part of our career. Regardless of anything, we have to keep moving forward in our lives. We know it’s not easy to leave a place you like, but unfortunately football is like that. I’ll miss it, but this is the world I live in, and I have to move on,” he said.
Igor Jesus’ Botafogo teammate, Gregore, has wished him luck for his new adventure at Nottingham Forest.
“I’m enjoying it, I think Igor was a very important player for us. He was and still is, really. Try to enjoy these last games with him better. I hope he can help before he leaves, score a lot of goals and have a lot of luck with his new team. Let’s see if he pays for the farewell barbecue,” Gregore explained.
