When it became clear that Christian Eriksen would be out for a long period of time, Manchester United got active on the transfer market to find a replacement.

They eventually found Marcel Sabitzer at Bayern Munich and decided to bring the player in on loan, but he wasn’t the only option.

Reports claimed that Manchester United also made an offer for Sofyan Amrabat, who plays for Fiorentina and made a big name for himself during the World Cup with his performances for Morocco.

However, Barcelona were also trying to sign him, and this was the reason why the player decided against moving to Old Trafford.

That’s what journalist Achraf Ben Ayad is reporting, claiming the midfielder ‘offered to play for free’ at the La Liga side for the rest and offered to give Fiorentina ‘the wages he was going to receive from Barcelona’ so that he could go on loan there.

This is when he also adds that Amrabat’s agent ‘had offers from Chelsea and Manchester United’, with Erik ten Hag knowing the player from their time at Utrecht together.

However, Amrabat made it clear he ‘only wanted Barça’, and therefore snubbed the advances of the Red Devils.
