With Tiemoué Bakayoko edging closer to a return to Milan, Davide Zappacosta is also close to leaving Chelsea, but his exit will be a permanent one.
The full-back has never really found a lot of joy at Stamford Bridge since his expensive transfer from Torino, with loans and serious injuries a big part of his time there.
That, however, seems like it could all be in the past for him, as a decent season with Genoa helped his stock rise a bit more, leading to Atalanta making the decision to bring him back to his former club to help with Hans Hateboer’s absence.
It was a quick operation, with the ‘blitz’ taking around 24 hours, according to Corriere dello Sport, but the ‘good relationship’ between the two clubs are said to have helped a lot, as did the €10m on offer to take him away from Chelsea permanently.
Having already travelled to Italy, Zappacosta is expected to undergo his medical on Tuesday ahead of the move, where he will then ‘sign a four-year contract’.
