Mads Roerslev joined Wolfsburg from Brentford in the January transfer window.

The initial loan move came about after Italian side Udinese also attempted to sign the full-back. After all the efforts put in by the Bundesliga club, things haven’t gone right for Roerslev.

He has played only five times in the Bundesliga and has failed to make a mark. Some details have now emerged about his future at Brentford.

Kicker have reported today that Wolfsburg have an option to buy the Dane permanently in the summer but they do not plan to exercise it.

As a result, the 25-year-old will return to Brentford and will part ways with the Bundesliga club only months after his arrival.

At the London club in the first half of the season, Roerslev played 19 games and had been an important part of Thomas Frank’s side. He was replaced by Michael Kayode, who joined from Fiorentina on an initial loan deal.

There are still doubts about Kayode’s future and depending on how the Italian’s situation evolves, Brentford could make a decision to give Roerslev another go.
