Former Leeds United forward Marcus Antonsson has told the Swedish media his move to Malmo has turned out to be better than he expected.
The player signed for the Swedish champions after two seasons at Elland Road.
Speaking to Svenskafans, Antosnson wants asked how he’s settled in at Malmo since his transfer in the summer: “It’s better than I’d dared to hope for, I’d say. Everything feels extremely positive… Not that I’m completely surprised because I thought it would be, but it has become even better. It’s a great bunch of really good guys in the team.”
The form Antonsson has shown since returning to his home country is in total contrast to the performances he showed in his debut season at Leeds United. After a promising start to his Elland Road career his displays tailed off as the season went on, and his chances of games wasn’t helped by the scoring exploits of Chris Wood.
Subsequently he was loaned to Blackburn Rovers last season and despite returning to Leeds United in the summer it always seemed he was surplus to requirements with the Championship club.
After leaving in the summer, Antonsson told the Swedish media that fitness issues and a managerial move had hindered his stay: “The injury was unfortunate, because in England if someone gets hurt, they buy a new player instead. And that’s a tough climate. One day you play with big stars, the next one you’re with the U23 team after a coach change.
“But I have never backed away from competition. I did not do that at HBK, Kalmar, Leeds and Blackburn either. On the contrary, it triggers me to be even better.
