Manchester City midfielder Yangel Herrera has revealed the club pushed him to Girona this summer, ahead of joining other clubs.
The 24-year-old returned to Spain earlier this month, joining Girona on a season-long loan deal after it was made clear there is no place for him at the Etihad.
He’s been with Manchester City since joining them from Atlético Venezuela in 2017 but is yet to feature for the Blues, instead spending the last five years on loan deal with Huesca, Granada and Espanyol.
His latest departure sees him joining another club in the City Group network in Girona, the second time has done so after a spell with New York City in 2017.
None of the midfielder’s loan spells have ended up with him securing a permanent move as yet but he has admitted he is hoping to establish himself this time around after the move was pushed by those in charge at Manchester City.
“Girona have tried to sign me several summers, but we didn’t coincide in terms of time,” Mundo Deportivo report him saying.
“When Girona was in the second division, but Granada came across to gain experience in the first division.
“From the first moment that Girona were promoted, both City and Girona wanted me to end up here and that’s how it has been.
“I’ve been in Primera for four years and I want to show what I’ve learnt over the years to achieve my objectives with this club. I want to give my maximum.
“Any footballer wants to establish himself at a club. I’ve had several loan spells and I’m looking to establish my football career and also to find stability in my family.
“That’s why I’m looking to do a good job. If I come here, it’s to have a great year and find stability, be it at Manchester City or at another club.”
