Mikel Merino has been saying his goodbyes to Real Sociedad as he heads to England to sign for Arsenal.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say the midfielder has been saying goodbye to teammates, staff and Real Sociedad sporting director Roberto Olabe this morning.
The newspaper reports that today was Merino’s last in Zubieta after Arsenal struck an agreement with Real Sociedad for the midfielder yesterday.
He has been at the Spanish club today to collect his belongings and, above all, say goodbye to everyone at the club. MD Gipuzkoa even have a photo of him speaking with his Olabe next to his vehicle moments before he left for London.
Arsenal have agreed to pay €32.5m plus €5m in variables for the midfielder. They will also pay close to €1m to Osasuna as part of FIFA’s solidarity scheme.
Merino will not be a part of Arsenal’s squad for this weekend and may have to wait for his debut as he has a minor discomfort in his back.
But he is now set to travel for a medical and finally bring this soap opera to an end, after saying goodbye to Sociedad today.
