Guglielmo Vicario has been a regular at Tottenham Hotspur since joining them from Empoli in June 2023.

Earlier this month, the goalkeeper said Spurs helped him fulfil his Premier League dream and that he’s set his sights on representing Italy in a competitive fixture. He’s played two games for the national team, and both were in friendlies.

Calciomercato now state the Tottenham player is set to start for Italy against Israel later today. The tie will take place in his birthplace Udine, which makes the fixture even more special for the 28-year-old.

The website says the stopper has impressed since joining the north London club, which has helped him make it to the Italy squad. His performances for Ange Postecoglou’s side have seen scouts from a few Italian clubs take notice.

Vicario has also been linked with a return to Serie A. Calciomercato relay it and add that Tottenham are unlikely to let him leave, unless there’s a ‘mind boggling offer’.

His deal lasts until 2028, and the report states the Italian is ‘only thinking about’ Spurs and the national team at the moment.

The former Cagliari man insists the Tottenham move has helped him improve his game.

“It’s a different experience from previous ones, changing countries. Another culture, a different football, it’s definitely a wealth of experience that is part of the path an athlete decides to take,” he said, relayed by TuttoMercatoWeb.

“Participating for the first year in a European competition is teaching me a lot: the pace is high, there is intensity. I’m trying things I’ve never tried before and putting them in my career backpack.”
