Jean Michaël Seri left Hull City to join Al-Orobah FC on a permanent transfer last summer.
The Ivory Coast international spent two seasons with the Tigers, after having joined them on a free transfer in the summer of 2022.
Afrik-Foot had a detailed chat with the 33-year-old where he discussed his two-year spell at Hull City.
The defensive midfielder made 37 appearances in his first season at Hull City. His form for the club helped him become an integral part of the national squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2023.
Jean Michaël Seri excelled in his second season at Hull City, under Liam Rosenior’s orders. He’s now said it was the best season of his playing career, but he still decided to leave the Championship side last summer.
The former Fulham man claims Hull City chairman Acun Ilıcalı’s decision to part ways with Liam Rosenior and start a new project convinced him to leave the English club.
He mentioned this when Afrik-Foot told Jean Michaël Seri that he found a ‘new lease of life’ at Hull City.
“In terms of performances, my 2023/24 season at Hull City was the best of my career. The chairman had a clear plan, and he brought in Liam Rosenior, a young, very ambitious coach, to play football. A coach who gave me the keys to the game. I did a lot of physical work,” he said.
“Everything really came together for me to be at my best. It’s no coincidence that I was at a good level at the African Cup of Nations that year; it was the result of my work with the club that season.
“It was a shame to finish 7th, just outside the play-offs. And when I realised the coach was going to join Strasbourg and that we were going to start a new project, I decided to leave.”
