Earlier on Friday, we covered claims made in Italy that Manchester United and Inter Milan are optimistic over reaching an agreement for André Onana’s transfer. It was also said the Serie A side are waiting for the Red Devils to make one last effort to sign the goalkeeper.
There seems to be a fresh development on this case as Sport Mediaset now state the 27-year-old is ‘one step away from saying goodbye’ to Inter.
For the past week or so, Manchester United and the Nerazzurri have been in constant contact and it has helped them make firm progress.
It’s claimed Onana is ‘waiting for the official announcement’, which will take place once the two clubs sort out the ‘last details’ of the operation. The report adds the deal would see Inter earn a fee between €50m and €55m including bonuses. The latter hope to get close to €55m.
The stopper arrived at the San Siro as a free agent last year and his sale in this window will allow the Italian club to make a profit. This, as per the website, was ‘too tempting’ for Inter to turn down, while also making sure they get the best deal possible.
Therefore, Sport Mediaset state Inter never wanted to accept a fee less than €52m [likely including bonuses], which is why they had rejected earlier offers from Manchester United.
Onana has agreed a five-year deal with the English club. Erik ten Hag had managed him when they were at Ajax and the pair are set to be reunited soon at Manchester United.
